What do you need help with?

Before anything else: this hood has no button panel. Look for a slim strip along the lower front edge — pull it out toward you like a drawer handle. That turns the light on. Turn the handle itself to change the fan speed.
✎ Added by your host This is an IKEA UNDERVERK built-in extractor hood — it recirculates air through a filter rather than venting outside, so it works a little differently to a typical vented hood. It's a bit gentler than you might expect; running it on a higher speed while cooking helps.

Won't turn on

  1. Find the slim horizontal strip along the lower front edge of the hood — it's a pull-out handle, not a button panel.
  2. Pull it out gently toward you until it clicks into an extended position — this is what turns the light on and enables the fan.
  3. Once it's out, turn the handle itself to select a fan speed.
  4. If nothing happens at all, check the kitchen's fuse box / circuit breaker hasn't tripped.

Light not working

  1. Check the pull-out handle is fully extended — the light only comes on when it's pulled out, not pushed in.
  2. If the fan runs fine but the light stays off even fully extended, that points to the bulb itself.
The light isn't a simple bulb swap on this model — please don't try to open the fixture. It's a quick fix for your host to handle.

Weak suction

This hood recirculates air through a filter rather than venting outside, so it's naturally a bit gentler than you might expect — but a few things help.

  1. Turn the pulled-out handle further to bump it up to the highest fan speed, especially while actively cooking something steamy.
  2. Turn it on a little before you start cooking, and leave it running a few minutes after — that gives it a head start on clearing the air.
  3. Check whether a light on the hood (usually near where the handle sits) is blinking — that means a filter needs cleaning, which directly affects suction. See "A light is flashing" from the main menu.

A light is flashing

This isn't a fault — it's a maintenance reminder. Flashing about once a second means the grease filter needs cleaning; flashing about twice a second means the charcoal filter does.
  1. For the grease filter reminder: the metal filter panel just above the hob is dishwasher-safe — it can go in with a normal load.
  2. For the charcoal filter reminder: this one's more involved — it needs either a specific wash-and-dry process or a full replacement, which is best left to your host.
  3. This is routine upkeep, not an emergency — the hood still works while the light is flashing, it's just due for a clean.

Louder than usual

A recirculating hood like this one runs a bit louder than a vented one by design, especially at higher fan speeds — but a couple of things are worth checking.

  1. Check nothing has fallen onto the grease filter or into the grille — a stray utensil or cloth can cause a rattle.
  2. Try a lower fan speed by turning the handle back slightly — if the noise scales down normally with speed, that's expected behavior, not a fault.
